On Thursday 2 May 2024, voters will go to the polls to elect a new London Mayor and 25 members of the Greater London Assembly, of which three currently represent the Green Party at City Hall.
Karin Tearle – candidate for Greenwich and Lewisham constituency
A former Greenwich business owner and professional, award-winning photographer, Karin Tearle works tirelessly to improve Greenwich and Lewisham for all residents and visitors.
Karin has lived in Greenwich since 2007 where she had a retail business in the town centre. She serves as a trustee for the Rwanda Development Trust, a charity set up in 1994. Initially starting as a volunteer translator and interpreter, Karin visited Rwanda to co-ordinate assessing small capacity building projects.
Closer to home, Karin has helped to run and is a proactive member of the Aperture Woolwich Photographic Society. She regularly captures stunning images of wildlife and heritage in London. Her pictures championing the local area illustrate the guidebook 111 Places in Greenwich That You Shouldn’t Miss.
Karin takes part in a range of volunteer-led projects across the borough, such as ‘Love your space’ art project in Plumstead Gardens, litter picking on the Thames foreshore in Thamesmead and community gardening.
Greenwich Greens came exceptionally close to winning their first Council seat in East Greenwich with Karin securing 38.2% of the vote in 2022.
Karin regularly attends full council meetings at Woolwich Town Hall to question cabinet members and councillors on issues that concern residents, such as housing repairs, air quality, pesticide use, waste management and planning.
In recent years, Karin has been an active campaigner opposed to the building of the Silvertown Tunnel working with a cross-party coalition of activists and politicians. Since construction of the road tunnel, she has called on the mayor to repurpose it for active travel to reduce the harm to residents and provide a quick safe route across the river for pedestrians and cyclists in East London.
Karin’s activism, driven by her empathy and energy, continues to inspire and effect change in her community. Vote for Karin as your London Assembly Member for Greenwich and Lewisham constituency, and the Green party on 2 May 2024.
